What is La Guerra Santa about?
La Guerra Santa is a story that depicts the struggle between God and Satan for the control of Mansoul, a city that represents the human soul. The city was created by God and enjoyed his presence and blessings, until it was deceived and corrupted by Diabolus (the devil) and his army of evil spirits. Diabolus captured the city by appealing to its pride, lust and self-will, and turned it into a stronghold of sin and rebellion against God.
God, however, did not abandon Mansoul, but sent his Son, Emmanuel (Jesus Christ), to rescue it from the enemy's power. Emmanuel waged a fierce war against Diabolus and his allies, such as Apollyon (the destroyer), Beelzebub (the lord of flies), Legion (the multitude of demons), and Mr. Carnal-Security (the false peace). Emmanuel eventually conquered the city by grace and mercy, and restored it to its original state of purity and happiness.
The book also describes the subsequent attacks that Diabolus launched against Mansoul, trying to regain his influence and destroy its faith. He used various strategies, such as deception, temptation, accusation, persecution, and seduction, to undermine the city's loyalty to Emmanuel. However, Emmanuel always defended Mansoul with his power and wisdom, and helped it to overcome every trial and temptation.
