Waldain Ke Huqooq: Islam Mein Maa Baap Ke Haqooq Aur Aulaad Ke Farayez
Islam is a religion that gives great importance to the family and its preservation. It has established rights and duties for all members of the family, but especially for the parents, whose status and honor are key to the development and well-being of the offspring. The Quran and the Sunnah have emphasized the rights of parents and the obligations of children towards them. In this article, we will explore some of the aspects of these rights and obligations, and how they can be fulfilled in a proper manner.
The Rights of Parents in Islam
The rights of parents in Islam are manifold and comprehensive. They include respect, obedience, kindness, gratitude, care, support, and prayer. Some of these rights are mentioned in the following verses and hadiths:
Allah says: \"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him; and that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: 'My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young.'\" (Surah Al-Isra: 23-24)
Allah also says: \"And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination.\" (Surah Luqman: 14)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: \"The pleasure of Allah is in the pleasure of the father, and the displeasure of Allah is in the displeasure of the father.\" (Tirmidhi)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: \"All sins are such that Allah may forgive them if He wills except for being undutiful to one's parents, for which Allah will punish a person before he dies.\" (Ahmad)
The Obligations of Children towards Their Parents
The obligations of children towards their parents are also numerous and comprehensive. They include obeying them in what is lawful, honoring them with good words and deeds, serving them with kindness and compassion, spending on them if they are in need, seeking their forgiveness and praying for their well-being. Some of these obligations are mentioned in the following verses and hadiths:
Allah says: \"And We have enjoined on man to be good and dutiful to his parents; but if they strive to make you join with Me (in worship) anything (as a partner) of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do.\" (Surah Al-Ankabut: 8)
Allah also says: \"And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination. But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not; but behave with them in the world kindly.\" (Surah Luqman: 14-15)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: \"He who looks at his parents with mercy will be looked at by Allah with mercy.\" (Bukhari)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: \"The best door to Paradise is that of one's father. You may either protect it or lose it.\" (Ibn Majah)
